Cutting Onions

  1. Cut onion lengthwise into halves.
  2. Place one half, cut side down, on cutting board.
  3. Make vertical cuts from root to stem, being careful not to cut all the way through the root end.
  4. Make horizontal cuts downward, again keeping the root end intact.
  5. Discard root end.
